Security guard says he was fired because of cancer

Securityguard

CHARLESTON – A man alleges he was fired from his job due to his suffering from cancer.

Ronald Laurent filed a lawsuit Aug. 15 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Securitas Security USA and Angie Keyser.

In his complaint, Laurent says he began working for Securitas in August 2012. He was working as a security guard for Huntington Banks when he was fired July 19, 2014, after he discovered that his pancreatic and esophageal cancer had returned, according to the complaint.

Laurent says Securitas violated West Virginia law, the Human Rights Act and public policy by firing him.

In his complaint, Laurent seeks front and back pay, plus compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, reinstatement, costs, attorney fees and other relief the court deems just.

Lia DiTrapano Fairless of DiTrapano Law Firm in Charleston and L. Tom Price of Tom Price Law in Charleston are representing him.
