CHARLESTON – West Virginia Executive magazine's list of The 50 Most Powerful West Virginians is peppered with lawyers.

The list, which can be found in the Summer 2006 issue and online at www.wvexecutive.com, also includes lawmakers, business leaders, government leaders.

Those on the list with law degrees include:

No. 48 Bob Steptoe is CEO of Steptoe and Johnson, president-elect of the West Virginia State Bar Association and chairman of board of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

No. 46 Al Emch is CEO of Jackson Kelly.

No. 41 Thomas Heywood is senior partner for Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love.

No. 40 Rick Slater is a partner at Simpson & Osborne, vice chair to the West Virginia Economic Development Authority and chairman of the state's Certified Development Authority Corporation.

No. 33 Robin Davis is chief justice of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.

No. 28 Mike Basile is a partner at Spilman Thomas and Battle and co-chair of Vision Shared.

No. 15 Alan Mollohan, who has a law degree, is the congressman for West Virginia's First District.

No. 3 Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia's senior U.S. senator, earned his law degree from American University in Washington, D.C., in 1963 after 10 years of study in night classes.
