MORGANTOWN -- The West Virginia University Alumni Association elected officers and new board members during its board of directors' annual meeting in May.
The 2007-08 slate of officers includes: Douglas Van Scoy of Sullivan's Island, S.C., chair; Charles D. Brown of Lake Oswego, Ore., vice chair; Jack Rossi of Charleston, treasurer; and Nancy DiPaolo of Spring, Texas, secretary.
The board of directors also elected three new members, including: Phillip "Phil" Gaujot of Morgantown; Heather Heiskell Jones of Charleston; and William F. "Bill" Kennedy of Bayhead, N.J. Joseph Wells of McMurray, Pa., completed his term and was recognized for his six years of service.
Gaujot graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science 1968 and a law degree in 1971, both from WVU. He began his career as an assistant attorney general for the state of West Virginia and continued his career in general practice in Charleston and Morgantown from 1973 until 2003, when he retired. Since 2001, he has served as an administrative law judge for Workforce West Virginia.
Jones graduated cum laude from WVU in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in political science. In 1987 she received her law from the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law. She joined the firm of Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC in 1987. She is a member and chair of the firm's litigation department, where she practices litigation defense.
She is a member of the West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel, American Bar Association, DRI and a graduate of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Leadership West Virginia program. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jones has been active in the community, volunteering her efforts to the United Way of the Greater Kanawha Valley, Clay Center (formerly the Sunrise Museum) and Legal Aid. She resides in Charleston.
Kennedy retired after 37 years on Wall Street in February 2000. He began his career as a runner and floor clerk at the New York Stock Exchange. After graduating from Potomac State Junior College in 1962, he attended WVU and received a bachelor's degree in finance in 1964.
Also serving on the board are: Sam Cann of Bridgeport; Michael Ellington of Grafton; C. Michael Fulton of Kensington, Md.; Jim Gardill (past chair) of Glen Dale; Jonathan Hickey of Wilmington, Del.; David Hill of Madison, W.Va.; Mike Petruski of Charlotte, N.C.; Shelia S. Price of Morgantown; James J. Rowe of Lewisburg; and Joy Faini Saab of Morgantown.
