Davis becomes new chief justice

CHARLESTON - Justice Robin Jean Davis has become the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.

The appointment is effective Jan. 1.

Justice Davis, who is the most senior member of the court, was elected to the Supreme Court of Appeals for a full 12-year term in November 2000. She had first been elected in 1996 to fill an unexpired term. Justice Davis previously served as Chief Justice in 1998 and 2002.

A Boone County native, Justice Davis earned her undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and her Masters and law degrees from West Virginia University. She began her private law practice in Charleston in 1982.

She is married to Scott Segal and has a son, Oliver.

Before her election to the Supreme Court of Appeals, she practiced law at the six-person law firm of Segal and Davis, L.C. She concentrated in the field of employee benefits and domestic relations.
