Male nurse charged with sexual harassment

CHARLESTON - Three women have charged the Raleigh Center in Daniels and a male nurse who works there with sexual harassment.

Jennifer Walker, Marilyn Walker and Sarah Montgomery claim Jason Maynard's harassment became a problem during their time of employment in a lawsuit filed Mar. 6 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

The lawsuit also lists Glenmark Associates, GMA Partnership Holding Company and Genesis Healthcare Corporation as defendants.

"While employed by the Defendants, Plaintiffs were subjected to unrelenting and unlawful offensive conduct based on their sex at the hands of their supervisor, Charge Nurse Jason Maynard," the complaint states.

Marilyn Walker, who worked at the Raleigh Center for 11 years, says she was fired after trying to bring the harassment to light.

"Defendants' conduct has interfered with the professional advancement and the availability of opportunities for Jennifer Walker and Sarah Montgomery and resulted in the termination of Marilyn Walker," the complaint says.

"Defendants terminated the employment of Marilyn Walker in retaliation for her efforts to force Defendants to comply with the West Virginia Human Rights Act and its policies."

The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages in an amount to be determined at trial and are represented by Tom Price. They also want the defendants to establish a training program on sexual harassment and gender discrimination in the workplace.

Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker has been assigned the case.
