PERSONNEL FILE: Harvey named VP, Assistant General Counsel at Massey

RICHMOND, Va. -- Massey Energy Company recently announced the promotions of M. Shane Harvey to Vice President and Assistant General Counsel and Roger T. Williams to Vice President, Sales.

Harvey joined Massey in 2000. In his new role, Harvey will continue to work closely with Massey's group operations and will assume primary responsibility for legal matters involving environmental compliance, public affairs, health and safety compliance and personal injury litigation.

Harvey graduated first in his class (Finance) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). After receiving his B.S. in Finance, Harvey received a law degree from the West Virginia University School of Law, where he was an editor of the National Coal Issue of the law review. Before entering law school, Harvey worked as an analyst for Goldman Sachs International in London, England.

Harvey has been representing clients in the coal industry, including Massey Energy, since 1994 and has authored articles and given presentations on issues affecting the industry. He will continue to work at the Company's office in Charleston, W.Va.

Roger T. Williams also was promoted to Vice President, Sales. The company also announced that its subsidiary Massey Coal Services, Inc. has promoted Sabrina L. Duba to Vice President, Operations Accounting.

Massey Energy, headquartered in Richmond, Va., with operations in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia, is the fourth largest coal company in the United States based on produced coal revenue.
