* Spitler was renting an apartment in Huntington from Crabtree when she went into her bathroom to take a shower. The suit claims she turned on the water and a large amount of steam escaped from the hot water tank, causing Spitler to be severely burned. She is suing for negligence and is seeking compensatory damages.

O.J. Mayo v. The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission

* Judge O'Hanlon granted Mayo's request to prohibit the WVSSAC from imposing its suspensions until the procedures by which Mayo can file appeal are made clear. Mayo will remain eligible to play basketball for Huntington High School until that time. His next hearing is set for Feb. 9.
