Woman says she was fired for filing for workers' comp

MORGANTOWN - A Monongalia County woman filed a suit against HealthSouth, claiming she was fired because she filed for workers' compensation.

Louetta Blosser filed the suit Jan. 26 in Monongalia Circuit Court against HealthSouth and Trisha Plevich, the director of Human Resources at HealthSouth's Morgantown facility.

Blosser was employed by HealthSouth from April 17, 2000 to Feb. 4, 2005. On April 19, 2002, and May 6, 2004, Blosser suffered injuries to her hand. She filed and received workers' compensation benefits for each of her hand injuries.

The suit states Blosser's injuries have left her substantially impaired in the activities of lifting, typing and working. During the time she was off work and receiving temporary total workers' compensation, her employers terminated her employment.

The suit states Blosser was fired without anyone discussing with her any means by which they could accommodate her disability.

Blosser seeks compensation for past lost benefits and payment, an award for emotional distress and inconvenience and punitive damages and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Blosser is being represented by Wendy Alke. She demands a trial by jury.
