Inmate sues after he was injured in jail fight

CHARLESTON - A man incarcerated in Southwestern Regional Jail has filed a suit against the jail after he was injured during a fight with other inmates.

William Steele, though his attorney Michael L. Glasser, filed a suit March 8 in Kanawha Circuit Court seeking compensation for his medical expenses and pain and suffering.

The suit says fellow inmates at the jail attacked Steele on March 22, 2005. He says he suffered permanent injury to his left eye.

Steele claims in his suit that guards at the jail failed in protecting him from attack, and failed to stop the attack in a timely matter after it began.

He seeks an amount adequate to cover his expenses and injuries.

The case has been assigned to Judge Charles King.
