CHARLESTON - Two Kanawha County residents have filed a suit against a national retail store, claiming they were fired after falsely being accused of a crime.

Jeremy and Sherri Bryant filed a suit May 22 in Kanawha Circuit Court, against J.C. Penney Corporation and Melissa Cook, a supervisor at the store.

The Bryants were employed by Management Cleaning Control and worked at the J.C. Penney store in the Charleston Town Center.

On June 27, 2006, they were fired after being falsely accused of a crime, the suit says. They claim to have suffered embarrassment, humiliation and emotional distress, as well as lost wages, due to their termination.

The Bryants, through attorney Mark Atkinson, seek punitive and compensatory damages. The case has been assigned to Judge Charlie King.
