Elizabeth Edwards to reschedule Charleston fundraiser

CHARLESTON – Elizabeth Edwards didn't make it to Charleston as hoped, but she still talked to those who attended the fundraiser.

Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, was scheduled to attend the campaign fundraiser Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the home of Charleston attorney Harry F. Bell Jr. of Bell & Bands.

"She never made it," Bell said Wednesday. "Her plane got stuck in fog at Teterboro (New Jersey)."

Bell said between 30 and 40 people showed up at his home for the fundraiser. Attendees contributed at least $500 to attend. With a $2,300 contribution, those attending received VIP status. Besides Bell and his wife Carrie, other members of the host committee were Dr. Daniel and Kathy Foster and Dr. J. Gregory and Jackie Rosencrance.

"We had a nice turnout, Bell said. "She'll be coming back. She did a conference call and is sending everyone who showed up a personally autographed copy of her book."

Bell said those who attended primarily were doctors and businesspeople, and they talked to Edwards about her husband's health care plan during the conference call.

"It was a good crowd," he said. "Just what we wanted. It was mostly mature, more experienced physicians. It was interesting listening to them talk about problems in their practices, such as dealing with insurance companies. They had a nice discourse about health care issues."

Bell said Edwards will make her appearance in Charleston soon. They currently are working on scheduling it.
