Father sues mall after son was hurt on escalator

Charleston Town Center

CHARLESTON - The father of a boy who was injured on the escalators at a Charleston mall has filed a personal injury lawsuit on behalf of his son.

Miguel Figueras filed a suit Nov. 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Town Center Company on behalf of his son, Alex Figueras.

According to the suit, Alex Figueras was riding on an escalator at the mall on Dec. 22, 2006, with his family, traveling from the third floor to the second.

While traveling down, Figueras' foot became caught in the escalator. The metal on the step then cut through his rubber shoes and socks, slicing his big toe, the suit says.

As a result, Figueras suffered bodily injuries requiring medical care and treatment.

Miguel Figueras, as the father of Alex Figueras, demands compensatory and all other damages.

Attorney Harry F. Bell Jr. is representing Figueras. The case has been assigned to Judge Irene Berger.
