*** WVU Alumni Association seeks Academy of Distinguished Alumni nominations

MORGANTOWN -- The WVU Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2010 Academy of Distinguished Alumni, which honors WVU graduates who have attained national or international distinction in their profession or discipline.

This prestigious award has been a tradition since 1988 and has been bestowed upon more than 75 WVU alumni, including Jerry West, David Selby, Dr. Nancy Nielsen, Rod "Hot Rod" Hundley, Sam Huff and Gen. John Craddock.

Inductees are nominated by the general membership of the alumni association or their respective schools or colleges. Nominees cannot be employees of WVU, the WVU Alumni Association, or the WVU Foundation, Inc., but does not exclude members of the board of governors, foundation board, etc.

WVU Alumni Association Board of Directors recently approved amendments to the academy bylaws to include posthumous nominations. In addition, the association will now accept nominations throughout the year for future consideration. These nominations will not have to be resubmitted each year unless the circumstances for the individual change.

The association implemented an online nomination process for the academy. Individuals interested in nominating alumni for this award should go to the alumni association's home page and click on the "Academy" nomination. Nomination forms can also be downloaded at http://alumni.wvu.edu/awards/academy or by calling the alumni association. All nominations must be sent to the WVU Alumni Association, One Alumni Dr., P.O. Box 4269, Morgantown, WV 26504-4269, by Nov. 13.

"The changes implemented by our board will allow us to properly recognize those graduates who have excelled in their professions, including those who have since passed, but previously were not eligible for induction into the academy," said Stephen Douglas, president and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association. "Additionally, nominations can now be submitted online, making the nomination process much more accessible for our alumni and friends."

The Academy of Distinguished Alumni induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Erickson Alumni Center.
