Couple sues over wreck that injured unborn child

MARTINSBURG - A Jefferson County couple has filed a suit against a man who struck their vehicle, causing injury to their unborn child.

Emily and Geoff Saunders filed the suit Dec. 12 in Berkeley Circuit Court against Robert Leon Taulton.

According to the suit, Emily Saunders was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Lonnie C. McGilton on Dec. 28, 2005. Saunders was pregnant at the time, which an infant who would late be named Alexander Saunders.

At the same time, Taulton was operating a 2002 Dodge Dakota. According to the suit, Taulton wrecked his vehicle in the rear of the one operated by McGilton, who was stopped to make a turn.

On Jan. 14, 2006, Alexander Saunders was born. The suit says Saunders was born prematurely with several injuries. Emily Saunders claims the injuries were due to the accident caused by Taulton.

Emily Saunders claims she has incurred medical expenses in excess of $5,000. Her son has also suffered pain and injuries.

According to the suit, Emily, Geoff and Alexander Saunders seek full compensation for their injuries.
