Huntington comedy club says former manager embezzled

HUNTINGTON - A local comedy club has filed a suit against a former manager, claiming she embezzled more than $33,000 from the company.

Attorney Daniel T. Yon filed the suit Jan. 8 in Cabell Circuit Court on behalf of the Funny Bone Comedy Club and Restaurant. The suit is against Rebecca DeLauder, who was the club's general manager Jan. 1, 2007.

According to the suit, DeLauder's duties included the collection, counting and depositing of proceeds and revenue.

"Between July 20, 2007 and Sept. 13, 2007, (DeLauder) failed to deposit in the business checking account proceeds and revenue… totaling over $33,000," the suit says.

The suit alleges DeLauder diverted the revenues and proceeds for her personal benefit and is therefore liable for embezzlement, conversion and fraud.

The Funny Bone seeks $33,613, plus punitive damages from DeLauder.

The case has been assigned to Judge David M. Pancake.
