Woman sues Exxon, others over her firing

CHARLESTON - A Mason County woman has filed a suit against Exxon and other companies after she was fired.

Tammy Rae Reed filed a suit Jan. 22 in Kanawha Circuit Court claiming she was fired because of her age and for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a customer on the job site. The suit is against City Ice and Fuel Company of Point Pleasant, Mason County Exxon Inc. and Art Hartley Sr.

Reed was an employee of Mason County Exxon for 11 years. At the time she was fired, she was working at aKanawha County Exxon store. According to the suit, Reed consistently performed her duties in a satisfactory manner and met the expectations of her employers.

However, on Jan. 11, 2008, Reed was constructively discharged. According to the suit, Reed claims she was fired in part because she is female. She also believes she was fired after she was accused of have a sexual relationship with a customer on the job site.

In the four-count suit, Reed claims she is entitled to damages for indignity, embarrassment, humiliation and annoyance, and inconvenience.

She seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney Mark A. Atkinson is representing Reed. The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker.
