Man blames CAMC for mother's death

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man has filed a medical malpractice suit against a local hospital on behalf of his late mother's estate.

Lovell Brown filed the suit July 16 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Area Medical Center.

According to the suit, Kathryn Brown was admitted to CAMC on Aug. 30, 2006, and remained until Sept. 19, 2006. While there, she began to suffer from skin breakdown. The suit says CAMC did not provide any wound care or treatment for two weeks after the first skin breakdown.

The complaint says the pressure wound worsened over time, as did Brown's condition. She allegedly sustained bodily injuries, resulting in pain, suffering and ultimately, death.

In the two-count suit, Lovell Brown seeks compensatory and punitive damages for his mother's estate.

Attorney Harry F. Bell is representing Brown. The case has been assigned to Judge Tod Kaufman.
