Man says two doctors to blame for leg amputation

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man has filed a medical malpractice suit against two Charleston physicians, claiming their untimely care caused his left leg to be amputated.

Beryl E. Shock filed the suit July 30 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Drs. Frank C. Lucente and John A. DeLuca, as well as the West Virginia University Board of Governors.

Shock was a patient under the care of Lucente and DeLuca on Oct. 17, 2005.

According to the suit, the doctors failed to properly and timely perform surgery on the blood vessels of Shock's left leg, which led to the leg's amputation on May 22, 2006.

Shock claims he has continued to suffer pain and mental anguish since that time, as well as a physical deformity.

He seeks compensatory and punitive damages as allowed under the Medical Professional Liability Act.

Attorney Richard D. Lindsay is representing Shock. The case has been assigned to Judge Charles King.
