CHARLESTON – Kanawha Circuit Judge Charlie King is resigning.
In a letter he sent to county officials Oct. 10 and released Oct. 14, King said he has submitted his letter of resignation to Gov. Joe Manchin.
"I am deeply grateful to the people of Kanawha County for having afforded me the opportunity and honor to serve as Circuit Judge of Kanawha County for the last twenty years," King wrote in a letter addressed to Kanawha County Commissioners Kent Carper, Dave Hardy and Hoppy Shores as well as other county leaders.
His resignation is effective at midnight Oct. 16.
King was seeking re-election and was unopposed in next month's general election.
King became a county prosecutor in 1973 and was elected prosecutor in 1984. He was elected as a judge in 1988.
