PERSONNEL FILE: Sturgeon joins Kay Casto & Chaney

CHARLESTON -- Kay Casto & Chaney has announced that James M. Sturgeon, Jr. has joined its Charleston office as a member.

"We are honored to have an attorney of Jim's experience and caliber join our firm," said Michael T. Chaney, a member of the law firm's management committee. "His background in tax law, corporate law, health care, and employee benefits is a perfect fit for us."

"Jim has numerous business clients and strong ties to the business community. Jim is a wonderful asset for our entire firm and our clients."

Sturgeon was a founding member of the firm of Pauley, Curry, Sturgeon & Vanderford.

"I'm joining Kay Casto because it has a vast reservoir of experienced lawyers helping business owners," Sturgeon said. "I'm particularly pleased with their tax, business litigation and labor and employment law expertise. This move will help me help my clients."

In July, Sturgeon was elected president of the West Virginia Board of Accountancy, which regulates the accounting profession.

In addition to practicing law in Charleston for more than three decades, Jim has competed in more than 60 marathons and is a past winner of the Charleston Trophy awarded to the first Charleston finisher in the Charleston Distance Run.

He received his AB degree in Natural Sciences (chemistry and physics) from the Johns Hopkins University and a JD degree from the Washington and Lee University Law School where he also held a Burks Teaching Fellowship. Sturgeon received a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering and Systems Analysis from West Virginia University College of Graduate Studies. He is a member of the Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia Bars and is also a Certified Public Accountant in West Virginia.

Sturgeon has been an instructor in the accounting department of West Virginia State University. He has taught continuing education courses for the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia State Bar. He previously served as Chairman of the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of the West Virginia State University Foundation and currently serves as Chairman of the State Tax Committee of the West Virginia CPA Society.
