Aviation company sues for engine cylinder malfunctions

HUNTINGTON — MDN Aviation is suing Engine Components Inc. after aircraft engine cylinders malfunctioned.

MDN Aviation purchased aircraft engine cylinders from ECI and, on Feb. 10, one of the cylinders failed during the flight of MDN Aviation's Cessna 340A, according to a complaint filed Nov. 5 in Cabell Circuit Court.

MDN Aviation claims the ECI cylinder was "designed, manufactured, constructed, assembled, planned, distributed, marketed, sold in a defective condition, causing it to be unreasonably dangerous to the users."

According to the suit, ECI did not adequately warn users of the dangers that could result from defective cylinders, which rendered the cylinders unsafe.

The company is suing for the cost repair and replace the defective cylinders; cost to inspect the defective cylinder; cost to inspect Engine Components cylinders in the future; loss of use; annoyance, aggravation and inconvenience; and punitive damages for strict liability, negligence, breach of warranty and negligent inspection. William L. Mundy of Mundy & Nelson is representing the company.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
