WAYNE -- A former police officer is suing the City of Ceredo for wrongful termination of his employment.

Chester Maynard was a police officer in Ceredo and on July 2, suffered a work-related injury, according to a complaint filed Nov. 20 in Wayne Circuit Court.

Maynard claims he filed a workers' compensation claim and was given a release from work, but on July 6 the Chief of Police, Jack Butcher, fired him due to the work-related injury.

According to the suit, the defendant breached its duty of reasonable care to Maynard and wrongfully terminated him.

Maynard is seeking compensatory damages for negligence, wrongful termination/retaliatory discharge, negligence infliction of emotional distress and violation of municipal police protection. He is being represented by James R. Akers II from Akers Law Offices.
