CHARLESTON -- A man is suing Golden Rule Insurance Company, an unknown man and an unknown corporation after he claims they refused to pay his medical expenses that were more than $70,000.
Donald R. Carter II purchased medical insurance from the defendants and claims he became ill between January and February, according to a complaint filed Dec. 18 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Carter claims he was transported to Cleveland Clinic and was admitted there for several days.
The defendant wrongly and intentionally denied Carter's valid claim for coverage of medical treatment, according to the suit.
Carter claims the defendants breached the contract it entered into with him by not properly paying legitimate claims.
Carter claims he has suffered extreme aggravation; emotional distress; pain and suffering; mental anguish; humiliation; embarrassment; economic loss; and inconvenience.
Carter is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by D. Adrian Hoosier II of the Hoosier Law Firm.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
