Pregnancy changes Croyle's WVU plans

Croyle

MORGANTOWN -- Kimberly Croyle decided not to accept the chief legal affairs position at West Virginia University after she discovered she was pregnant.

"WVU has been extremely supportive of me and my family and our new development," Croyle said Wednesday.

Croyle said she still will continue to look for ways she can be of service to WVU.

"While I would love to serve WVU as its general counsel, this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and ultimately the timing just didn't work out," she said. "It would be difficult with two young boys and a baby on the way to change careers at this stage."

Croyle said she will remain at Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love.

"It is a wonderful place to practice law and the support for me here has been overwhelming, too," she said. "

WVU President James Clements said Croyle asked to be released from the contract she signed with the university, to which he agreed.

"I certainly understand Kim's decision and wish her and her family all the best," Clements said.

Croyle said she loves WVU and appreciates everyone's support in her decision.

"I want to thank President Clements, Chairwoman Carolyn Long and others for their encouragement and support during this entire process," Croyle said. "I love the University and will continue to do whatever I can on its behalf."

Clements said WVU will resume the search process immediately for a chief legal affairs person.

Mary Roberta Brandt will continue in her role as interim vice president for legal affairs and general counsel in the meantime.
