CHARLESTON -- A Kanawha County physician is suing Thomas Memorial Hospital & Comprehensive Surgical Associates for violations of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.
Dr. Noel Doromal began working for the defendant when the hospital was having problems with a shortage of E.R. surgery coverage, according to a complaint filed March 8 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Doromal claims he signed a contract with Delphi Healthcare Partners, Inc., for the sole purpose of working for Thomas Memorial Hospital and that each time his contract would come up for renewal, agents of the defendant would continue to renew his contract and said "that he would have a job with said hospital until he wanted to retire."
After working for the defendant for four years, Doromal's contract was not renewed, according to the suit.
Doromal claims he was replaced with "younger, less experienced surgeons." He claims the defendant discharged him from his employment because of his age.
Doromal is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by J. Michael Ranson, Cynthia M. Ranson and George B. Morrone III.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Chares King.
