Harpers Ferry couple sues Paul Davis Systems, others for fraud

CHARLES TOWN -- A Harpers Ferry couple is suing Paul Davis Systems of Suburban MD & Washington, D.C., after their home experienced water damage.

Barkay, Inc., and C&C Complete Services were also named as defendants in the case.

On Feb. 20, 2009, Denise A. Cronin and Christopher J. Cronin experienced significant water damages to their home in Harpers Ferry, according to a complaint filed April 27 in Jefferson Circuit Court.

The Cronins claim they were working and traveling outside of West Virginia when the water damage occurred.

Mrs. Cronin was notified of the water damage and traveled back on Feb. 21 to inspect the extent of the damage.

On March 3 the Cronins entered into a contract wit Paul Davis Systems for water mitigation, mold remediation, home and content stabilization and demolition, and the first phase of reconstruction was estimated to cost $205,321.26, according to the suit.

The Cronins claim they made payments to Paul Davis System prior to the commencement of the work, but the defendant canceled a scheduled inspection, forged Mrs. Cronin's signature on a check and cashed the check without the plaintiffs' permission.

C&C Complete Services were contracted by the Cronins to remove their furniture and store it in storage units, according to the suit

The Cronins claim C&C billed them multiple times for personal property that it was not storing at its facility.

The Cronins are seeking compensatory damages.
