CHARLESTON -- A former Lakin Correctional Center inmate is suing two correctional officers and the West Virginia Division of Corrections after she claims she was sexually harassed and abused while incarcerated.
During Robin Ward's incarceration she was sexually harassed and abused by C.O. Rees and C.O. Cochran, according to a complaint filed June 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Ward claims the defendants disregarded her rights and caused her to suffer anxiety; humiliation; annoyance and inconvenience; invasion of privacy; emotional distress; pain and suffering; mental anguish; loss of ability to enjoy life; future medical and pharmaceutical expenses; and other damages.
According to the suit, the defendants were negligent in failing to supervise, train and hire Rees and Cochran; negligently staffed the facility; negligently failed to intervene on their behalves; and negligently retained Rees and Cochran's employment
Ward is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Kerry A. Nessel.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis Bloom.
