Charleston attorney again offers free Valentine's Day divorce

CHARLESTON – Valentine's Day is usually a day of love, but to one Charleston attorney, it means something else entirely.

On Feb. 14, Charleston attorney Charles "Rusty" Webb offers a free divorce to one West Virginia citizen who presents him with the most compelling story as to why they deserve a free divorce.

For four years, Webb has been giving away what he calls a free Valentine's Day divorce. The divorce is limited to an uncontested, no-fault divorce with no or minimal child custody issues.

Webb said he will choose the winner on Valentine's Day.

"I chose Valentine's Day because there are many unhappy married people; so many people who can't get out of a bad marriage," Webb said.

Webb said for people who are in a bad marriage, Valentine's Day is not a happy holiday.

"To the winner of the free divorce, it's not going to be just Valentine's Day this year," Webb said. "It's going to be Independence Day."

Webb said so far he has received about 30 entries this year, which is about what he received last year.

The service is free, but the winner will be responsible for all fees, costs and expenses associated with the divorce. Current Webb Law Firm clients are ineligible.
