WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The law firm Spilman Thomas & Battle has announced that Jeffrey D. Patton, a member in charge of its Winston-Salem office, was recently named to Business North Carolina magazine's Legal Elite for 2011.

This year's Legal Elite selection process included making ballots available to more than 20,000 North Carolina attorneys. Of the thousands of attorneys practicing in the state, less than 3 percent were selected as Legal Elite.

Patton's primary areas of practice are trial work and complex commercial litigation, labor and employment law, class actions, consumer finance, construction, and health care law. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Patton received his B.A. from The College of William & Mary in 1991 and his J.D. from Wake Forest University in 1994. He previously worked as a law clerk for the United States District court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
