Shane Masters vs. the City of Huntington

* Masters is employed by the City of Huntington and works for the City of Huntington Fire Department. On Aug. 16, 2008, Masters claims he entered into an agreement known as the "Opt-Off of Health Coverage" with the defendant. He claims he opted off the health care coverage in exchange for the promise to receive an annually cash payout of $2,500 for each year he elected to opt off. The defendant breached its contract with Masters in December 2009 by failing to pay the second installment of the $2,500, according to the suit. Masters is seeking a declaration that the defendant breached its contract with him and compensatory damages.

Brenda and Brice Penley vs. Loved Ones In-Home Care, LLC; Michael Alley; and Donna Skeen

* On Oct. 15, 2003, Mrs. Penley was hired by the defendants. On Feb. 6, 2009, Mrs. Penley suffered an on-the-job injury when she twisted her knee and was placed on light work duty by her physician until March 2, 2009. One week later, Mrs. Penley was turning in her time sheet and was told that Skeen needed to talk to her and not to leave, so she waited for more than three hours until Skeen was able to speak with her, according to the suit. Mrs. Penley claims she was informed her employment was terminated. She and her husband are seeking compensatory damages.
