HUNTINGTON -- A Huntington woman is suing an orthodontist after she claims he caused her permanent disfigurement.
On Aug. 6, 2002, Dr. Frederick H. Sammons placed a rapid palatal expander with facemask on Laura Copley, who was a minor at the time, according to a complaint filed Feb. 25 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Copley claims the defendant did not properly implement the use of the expander and facemask.
The defendant's inappropriate use and implementation of the rapid palatal expander and facemask caused Copley to suffer damage to her chin, which has created a permanent disfigurement, according to the suit.
Copley claims Sammons had a duty to exercise reasonable orthodontic care, skill and judgment and failed to do so.
Copley is seeking compensatory damages. She is being represented by Amy C. Crossan.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
