Woman sues state jail authority for sexual misconduct

CHARLESTON -- A former inmate is suing the state jail authority after she claims she was sexually harassed, assaulted and abused by a correctional officer.

Millie Williams was incarcerated in the Southern Regional Jail and was allegedly sexually harassed, abused and assaulted by Arnold Amos, a correctional officer at the facility, according to a complaint filed March 24 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Williams claims the state jail authority failed to protect her from Amos.

The defendants' actions constituted intrusion upon Williams' privacy rights, according to the suit.

Williams claims the state jail authority negligently failed to properly advise Amos and an unknown person; failed to protect her from foreseeable harm; and failed to take reasonable measures to prevent the unlawful conduct of Amos and John Doe.

Williams is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Matthew J. Woelfel.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles E. King.
