* Thacker is paralyzed from the waist down and has been confined to a wheelchair for most of her adult life. She claims on July 6, 2009, she arrived for a scheduled appointment with her oncologist at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center and was in an examination room when two individuals who claimed to be her nurses attempted to lift her from her wheelchair and into an examination table. Thacker claims during the attempted transfer to the examination table, the nurses were unable to lift her and dropped the floor, pinning her knees underneath her body. As a result of being dropped, Thacker suffered an impacted comminuted undisplaced supracondylar fracture of the distal femur. She is seeking compensatory damages.

* Mr. Ferris was employed by Asplundh. On Aug. 4, 2009, he claims he was forced to work in weather that consisted of high winds, thunder, lightning and rain. He claims he was denied his request not to work in the conditions and for assistance. While cutting a tree branch with a chain saw, the high winds pushed a large branch into Mr. Ferris, which caused him to reflexively reach out and grab the branch. He claims when he did this, the chain saw tore into his wrist. He is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest.
