Former Lakin inmate sues doctor for sexual misconduct

HUNTINGTON -- A former Lakin Correctional Center inmate is suing Wexford Health Sources after she claims a physician caring for her sexually harassed her.

The physician, Dr. John Pellegrini, and an unnamed individual were also named as defendants in the suit.

Elizabeth Brady received medical treatment from Pellegrini, who was employed by Wexford, while she was an inmate at the Lakin Correctional Center, according to a complaint filed Aug. 26 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Brady claims while being treated by Pellegrini, she was the victim of sexual misconduct.

The defendants owed a duty to Brady to provide safe and appropriate medical care and failed to do so, according to the suit.

Brady claims Pellegrini's conduct was atrocious, intolerable and so extreme and outrageous as to exceed the bounds of decency.

Wexford knew or should have known of Pellegrini's conduct, according to the suit.

Brady is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre-judgment interest. She is being represented by Michael A. Woelfel.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
