PERSONNEL FILE: Three from Steptoe & Johnson earn CPLTA certification

BRIDGEPORT -– Three members of the Steptoe & Johnson energy team recently obtained certification as professional lease and title analysts.

Hugh Carroll and Manager of Abstractors Phillip Davis of the firm's Bridgeport office, and Sarah Werner of the Morgantown office earned the distinction after a two-day instructional course and exam.

The CPLTA training and testing was held in Pittsburgh, PA last month and sponsored by the Greater Appalachian Basin Association of Lease and Title Analysts (GABALTA), the regional affiliate of the National Association of Lease and Title Analysts.

Lease and title analysts ensure the validity of documents determining ownership of property. They research and analyze property records, ordinances and statutes on behalf of parties utilizing land often for the purpose of energy exploration. As a CPLTA, the individual is considered the standard bearer for lease and title professionals across the nation.

According to NALTA, the primary goal of the certification program is to enhance the professional status of lease and title analysts, and provide an energy industry-wide standard of excellence and achievement.

Steptoe & Johnson is a regional, business-focused firm with strengths in energy, labor, employment, and litigation. It comprises over 200 lawyers resident in 10 locations throughout West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
