Crum woman accuses insurer of breach of contract

WAYNE -- A Crum woman is suing American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida after she claims it breached its contract with her.

On Dec. 27, 2010, Dee Dee Williams' home was demolished by fire and deemed a total loss, according to a complaint filed Oct. 6 in Wayne Circuit Court.

Williams claims she submitted a listing of the personal property lost, which valued above $30,000, but the defendant only paid her for $16,061.25 and refused to pay her in full.

The defendant's conduct during the claims process leading to the denial of Williams' full payment of personal property coverage by the defendant amounted to arbitrary, ruthless and indifference behavior toward Williams, according to the suit.

Williams is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Douglas Reynolds.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James H. Young Jr.
