Bicyclist sues woman for car accident

HUNTINGTON – A Huntington man who was riding his bicycle is suing a woman who struck him with her vehicle and caused him injuries.

On Feb. 16, William Mullins was riding a DBX mountain bike in Huntington when Barbara Meek, who was operating a 2000 Buick LeSabre, passed out and ran through a red light at the intersection of Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue and struck Mullins with the car, according to a complaint filed Oct. 31 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Mullins claims he suffered damages as a result of being struck by the car.

As a direct result of Meek’s negligence in fainting while operating her vehicle, Mullins sustained severe damages to his bicycle and bodily injuries including pain and suffering; mental anguish; and substantial aggravation and inconvenience, according to the suit.

Mullins claims Meek failed to maintain proper control of her vehicle and failed to obey all traffic control signals and laws.

Meek also failed to maintain a careful and proper lookout at all times and failed to maintain consciousness, according to the suit.

Mullins is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is being represented by Dennis E. Kelley.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
