Ripley couple names 58 defendants in asbestos suit

CHARLESTON -- A Ripley couple is suing 58 companies they claim are responsible for a lung cancer diagnosis.

On Jan. 25 Gay Williams was diagnosed with lung cancer, according to a complaint filed March 22 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Williams claims he was exposed to asbestos and/or asbestos-containing products during his employment as a laborer from 1966 until 2005.

The defendants failed to warn Williams of the dangers of exposure to asbestos, according to the suit.

Williams claims the defendants are being sued based on theories of negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentations and post-sale duty to warn.

Williams and his wife, Barbara Williams, are seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues involved. They are being represented by Thomas P. Maroney and Victoria L. Antion.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
