CHARLESTON -- Nine women are suing the West Virginia Regional Jail Authority for sexual harassment, abuse and assault they suffered during their incarcerations.
C.O. Ween, C.O. Jeremy Dillon, C.O. Duane Lipinsky, C.O. Ricketts, C.O. Cochran, C.O. Rees, C.O. Gerald Walls, Greg Hefner, C.O. Napier and C.O. Sams were also named as defendants in the suit.
Tabitha Gardner, Danielle Thornton, Stephanie Zavala, Autumn Bailey, Penny Connard Natasha Davis, Juanita Glover, Sara Roseberry and Brandy Mackey were incarcerated at various regional jails in West Virginia when they were sexually harassed, assaulted and abused by the correctional officers, according to nine complaints filed April 19 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
The nine women claim the jail authority negligently allowed the conduct to occur.
The defendants owed a duty to each of the nine women to provide reasonably safe confinement facilities, but failed to do so, according to the suits.
The women claim the correctional officers caused them to suffer from cruel and unusual punishment.
The jail authority knew or should have known that the correctional officers failed to comply with laws and standards required by staff members in their position, according to the suits.
The nine women claim the jail authority failed to intervene on their behalf and failed to protect them.
The defendants' actions caused the nine women to suffer severe emotional distress, according to the suits.
The nine women are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are being represented by Kerry A. Nessel and Timothy P. Rosinsky.
