CHARLESTON -- A Charleston couple is suing Wal-mart Stores for injuries sustained at its South Charleston store.
William Bridgers, the store manager of the South Charleston Wal-mart, was also named as a defendant in the suit.
On Dec. 8, 2011, Bridget Reinerth went to the South Charleston Wal-mart and was a passenger in a car being driven by her husband, Eric Reinerth, according to a complaint filed June 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Bridget Reinerth claim when Eric Reinerth pulled to one of the main entrances to the facility adjacent to the curb and she stepped up onto the curb to enter the store, she slipped and fell on ice and was injured.
The temperature on that day was such that a reasonably prudent store owner would have taken precautionary measures to ensure that ice did not form at the main entrance to its business, according to the suit.
The Reinerths claim there was no salt or other ice melting substance used by the defendants to keep the premises safe.
As a result of the defendants' actions, Bridget Reinerth sustained injuries to her knees and wrist and she incurred substantial medical expenses, according to the suit.
The Reinerths are seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. They are being represented by William M. Tiano.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey.
