MORGANTOWN -- A Tunnelton woman is suing West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc. after she claims it is responsible for a skin breakdown her husband suffered while at the hospital.
On April 9, 2010, Jerry E. Stone was admitted to the defendant and had significant mobility problems, nutritional problems and other medical conditions, all of which heightened his need for skin breakdown assessments, preventative skin care measures and/or treatment, according to a complaint filed Aug. 2 in Monongalia Circuit Court.
Deloras A. Stone claims while her husband was a patient of the defendant's, he developed a decubitis ulcer on or about his coccyx area.
The defendant breached its applicable standard of care by not implementing sufficient and necessary measures in a timely manner to treat Jerry Stone's decubitis ulcer once it was diagnosed so that it did not further deteriorate and worsen, according to the suit.
Deloras Stone claims on May 5, 2010, her husband was admitted to a facility in Latrobe, Pa., where he had to undergo additional medical treatments for the ulcer because of the defendant's negligence.
As a result of the defendant's actions, Jerry Stone suffered medical expenses; severe physical pain and suffering; severe emotional distress; loss of enjoyment of life; and significant embarrassment and disfigurement, according to the suit.
Deloras Stone is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Daniel L. McCune.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Phillip D. Gaujot.
