Lawsuit: Vet took off dog's entire toe during nail-removal

Mountainview

KEYSER - A Mineral County resident is suing over claims a Keyser veterinarian committed gross negligence.

Scott Kuhn filed a lawsuit June 17 in the Circuit Court of Mineral County against Mountainview Veterinary Services Inc. and Anna C. Smith, citing negligence.

Kuhn says his dog was taken to Mountainview Veterinary Services to have the dog's toenail removed May 18, 2012.

However, instead of removing the toenail, the entire toe was wrongfully removed, according to the complaint. In addition, the dog was bleeding excessively after the surgery and taken to another vet to control the bleeding, the complaint states.

The plaintiff contends that the other vet discovered that the surgery site had wide gaps between sutures, inadequate wound closure and additional examples of inadequate veterinary care.

The plaintiff is seeking an undetermined amount of relief, including punitive damages. He is being represented by Petersburg attorney John G. Ours.

Circuit Court of Mineral County Case No. 13-C-65.
