Former Mercer sheriff's deputy sues over termination

Meadows

PRINCETON - A Princeton man claims he was wrongfully terminated and defamed by his former employer.

William V. Worley filed a lawsuit Aug. 22 in the Circuit Court of Mercer County against the Mercer County Sheriff's Department, the Mercer County Commission, former Sheriff Harold Buckner, personally and in his official capacity, Sheriff Don Meadows, in his official capacity and unknown Deputy Sheriff John Doe, personally and in his official capacity, citing wrongful termination, defamation, slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Worley says he was previously employed as a Mercer County deputy sheriff and was not given a fair discharge hearing upon termination.

The complaint also contends the defendants made untrue statements about the plaintiff's character.

Worley is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages and is representing himself.
