PRINCETON – A Bluefield woman is suing a Mercer County hospital over alleged negligence that led to infection and further medical care.
Darlene Hall filed a lawsuit in Mercer Circuit Court against Princeton Community Hospital Association, alleging medical negligence.
On June 27, 2013, the suit states, the defendant placed a Port-A-Cath in Hall for chemotherapy treatment related to her diagnosis of breast cancer.
On July 8, 2013, an agent or employee of the defendant had difficulty accessing Hall's Port-A-Cath by needle through the steri-strips and had to seek assistance from another hospital employee to complete laboratory testing.
The suit states that the employee failed to use standard sterility protocols and procedures when accessing Hall's Port-A-Cath, resulting in Hall becoming infected and septic. She had to be hospitalized and undergo surgery to have the Port-A-Cath removed, and her chemotherapy treatment plan was delayed. The suit states the defendant was negligent and breached the standard of care when treating Hall.
As a result, Hall has sustained pain and suffering, additional medical care and expenses, and delay in treatment and recuperation. Hall seeks compensatory damages.
Hall is being represented by attorneys Tony L. O'Dell and Cheryl A. Fisher of Tiano O'Dell in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge William J. Sadler.
