HUNTINGTON — A Cabell County woman is seeking damages from Kroger Co., alleging she was injured when her feet became entangled in a plastic bag, causing her to fall.

Rhonda K. Shropshire and Byron K. Shropshire filed a lawsuit on Jan. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia Huntington Division. Their lawsuit against Kroger claims Rhonda Shropshire suffered personal injury due to negligence.

Rhonda Shropshire was entering the store on 5th Avenue in Huntington on Jan. 16, 2014, when her feet became entanlged in a plastic bag, she alleges in the suit. A resulting fall led to her being taken to a hospital, the suit says. She allegedly suffered a fractured rib, contusions to the chest and abdomen, pain in the back and neck, chronic pain, myofascial pain and female pelvic pain, according to the lawsuit, which says that her treatment is ongoing.

The plaintiffs are suing for compensatory and punitive damages of $500,000. They are requesting a jury trial and have not sought representation by any attorney.
