PRINCETON – The purchasers of a Jeep Compass claim that their vehicle is defective and are suing for full reimbursement from the manufacturer and dealership.

Plaintiffs Alisha Hagerman and Matthew Hagerman filed a lawsuit on Jan. 21 in Mercer Circuit Court against FCA US LLC (also referred to as Chrysler) and Ramey Motors Inc. over claims that their vehicle has needed frequent repairs for its transmission.

Plaintiffs assert that on Oct. 19, 2013, they purchased a new 2014 Jeep Compass from defendant Ramey Motors in Princeton. The total price for the vehicle was alleged to be $37,292.25 and included a “bumper to bumper” warranty for a period of three years or 36,000 miles and a drive train 5 year or 100,000 miles warranty. After the purchase, Plaintiffs claim that the vehicle has been returned to an authorized Chrysler repair center for service three times for the same nonconformity: a defective transmission. Plaintiffs assert the failure exists even after multiple attempts at fixing it, with each attempt ending in failure.

They are suing for a refund for the value of their trade-in and down payment and miscellaneous payments of no less than $37,292.45; incidental and consequential damages of loss of use, annoyance, inconvenience, and aggravation in an amount no les than $10,000.00; attorney fees and cost; or in the alternative, that Ramey be required to accept revocation of the contract and the vehicle be returned to it with a full refund of purchase price and fees along with reasonable attorney’s fee; and any other rewards deemed appropriate by the court. They are seeking a trial by jury and are represented by William O. Huffman located in Princeton.
