Woman claims Rheumatology Group fired her for pregnancy

Termination form

CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman is suing her former employer, claiming  she was fired the day after she announced she was pregnant.

Katelyn Daniele Harper filed a lawsuit on Feb. 8 in Kanawha Circuit Court against The Rheumatology Group PLLC, alleging wrongful termination.

According to the complaint, several months after Harper began working for the defendant, she learned she was pregnant with her first child. The day after she informed her supervisor she was expecting a child, Harper says she was terminated without warning or reprimand.

Harper seeks a jury trial, and punitive and compensatory damages, reinstatement or front pay, and litigation costs. She is represented by attorneys Stephen B. Farmer and Matthew H. Nelson of Farmer, Cline & Campbell PLLC in Morgantown. Judge Tod J. Kaufman is assigned to the case.
