Buyer wants refund for allegedly defective vehicle

Carrepair

PRINCETON – A Mercer County woman says a used car dealer sold her a lemon, and she wants her money back.

Staccotta Dickerson filed a lawsuit April 11 in Mercer Circuit Court against Danny Griffith, owner of Danny Griffith Used Cars.

According to the complaint, shortly before Dickerson bought a 2004 Range Rover from Danny Griffith’s Used Cars on Jan. 12, she noticed the "check engine" light was on. When the engine was scanned at AutoZone, the suit says five codes showed problems. Griffith agreed to repair three of them, and Dickerson purchased the vehicle.

When she later told a Range Rover dealer which codes had been detected, the suit says they told her the engine was likely in need of replacement at a cost of around $14,000. After failed attempt at repairing the vehicle’s timing, Dickerson says, she wants her money back.

Dickers seeks damages in the amount of $12,493 for the vehicle’s cost and pre-paid insurance payments. She is representing herself.
