Medical malpractice 09

CHARLESTON — A Williamson woman is suing health care facility operators, alleging their negligence caused injuries to a relative.

Rita Sammons, as next friend and power of attorney for Donna Sue Sammons, individually filed a complaint Jan. 13 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington LLC and CHG Cornerstone Healthcare Group LP, et al, alleging failure to properly operate and monitor their long-term acute facility.

According to the complaint, between Nov. 19- Dec. 13, 2014, while Donna Sammons was under the defendants' care, she sustained personal injuries and damages, including sepsis, sepsis shock and pneumonia. The suit says she is now unable to talk, walk or move her extremities.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants allegedly failed to exercise reasonable care in providing oversight and management of their facility and failed to implement appropriate policies and procedures and failed to take corrective actions.

Rita Sammons seeks a trial by jury, judgment in excess of the jurisdictional limits of the court, costs of litigation and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorneys P. Rodney Jackson of the Law Offices of P. Rodney Jackson in Charleston, and by Angel R. Moore of The Moore Firm of Charleston PLLC in Charleston.
