PRINCETON — An Mercer County man is suing a debt collector, alleging misrepresentation in debt collection and violation of state law.

Clarence Ross Matherly filed a complaint April 25 in Mercer Circuit Court against Chalet High Owners Association, and Meridian Financial Services Inc.,alleging they illegally called the plaintiff in an attempt to collect an alleged debt.

According to the complaint, in 2014, Matherly suffered damages from being called several times regarding his debt. The plaintiff alleges the defendants harassed him by illegally placing several collection calls to his telephone for an alleged "late fee" of $1,373.94.

Matherly seeks actual damages of up to $75,000, statutory damages, general compensatory damages, legal fees and all other just relief. He is represented by attorneys Ralph C. Young, Christopher B. Frost, Steven R. Broadwater Jr, and Jed R. Nolan of Hamilton, Burgess, Young & Pollard PLLC in Fayetteville.
